Quratulain Dar

Quratulain graduated in Fine Arts from Punjab University College of Art & Design in 2019 and then worked there as a Visiting Lecturer for a year. Currently, she is immersed in her MPhil studies in Cultural Studies at National College of Arts, Lahore. Her work very explicitly displays stories of gender dynamics and the power play in societal frameworks. The paintings prominently features individuals and elements associated with urban lower middle income environments, which are presented in a striking manner.

ARTIST STATEMENT:

“Through my work, I explore sociocultural ideas regarding gender and power dynamics, which, I think, are deeply rooted into the society. By combining fact and fiction, I narrate personal experiences. My work challenges and questions the existing norms by creating dramatic visuals. I draw heavily from the culture, social behaviors and characters I observed around me while growing up in Gujranwala.”
