Swarim Abid
Swarim Abid Hasan (b. 2003) is a contemporary visual artist based in Karachi, Pakistan. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from the National College of Arts, Lahore, in 2025. Working primarily with silver leaf and chemical oxidation on canvas, Hasan's practice explores the poetic interplay between decay and transformation. His surfaces marked by tarnish, corrosion, and patina become evocative landscapes where beauty emerges through controlled deterioration.
Artistic Practice and Themes
Hasan’s work investigates themes of time, memory, and impermanence, often featuring human figures and ordinary objects reimagined through the lens of material change. Drawing on both traditional techniques and experimental surface treatments, he balances structured compositions with the unpredictability of chemical reactions. This alchemical approach transforms painting into a reactive, living medium that echoes the fragility and resilience of lived experience.
Public Art and Mural Work
In addition to his studio practice, Hasan has contributed significantly to public art as a muralist in Karachi and Lahore, engaging with urban spaces and community narratives. His large-scale work has informed his sensitivity to spatial dynamics and environmental context, enriching the formal and conceptual depth of his canvases.
Exhibitions and Evolving Practice
Since graduating, he has exhibited in prominent group exhibitions, including Recent III at Tagheer Art Gallery and Creative Currents at Ejaz Art Gallery in Lahore. Hasan continues to develop a distinctive visual language rooted in transformation, where the ephemeral becomes a site for reflection, beauty, and renewed meaning.
