Sarah Mumtaz

Sarah Mumtaz completed her Bachelor’s degree in Printmaking in 2005, followed by a Master’s degree in Visual Arts in 2010, both from the National College of Arts, Lahore. During her Master’s programme, she was introduced to performance art, a medium that went on to become central to her practice. In 2011, she presented her first performance, Everything Will Be OK, at the Zahoor-ul-Akhlaq Gallery, National College of Arts.

She has since performed Mend Me One Stitch at a Time at the Dutch Embassy, Islamabad (2017), participated in Mix Tape, curated by Amin Gulgee at Canvas Gallery, Karachi (2018), and taken part in River in the Ocean, a collateral event of the Lahore Biennale (2018). In 2014, she held her first solo exhibition at Taseer Art Gallery, followed by her second solo exhibition at Rohtas Gallery in 2018, and her third at Tagh’eer, Lahore, in 2021.

Sarah Mumtaz is associated with the British Council and continues to perform in collaboration with them. Her recent works include More Than My Gender, a spoken word and dance performance video for the WOW Festival, and Aftermath (2023). She also participated in a group exhibition as part of the NCA Triennale at Kitab Ghar in 2025.
