Samina Arjumand
Samina Arjumand was born in Karachi, Pakistan. From a young age, she demonstrated a deep interest in painting, a passion that took root during her school years and has remained central to her life and creative journey.
Cultural Influences
Samina’s maternal roots trace back to Quetta, a connection that has greatly influenced her artistic vision. Growing up surrounded by the rich cultural textiles of her maternal family vibrant clothing, bedding, kilims, carpets, and tapestries, Samina was captivated by their intricate patterns and dazzling colours. These early impressions have become a hallmark of her work, especially in her use of bright and mesmerizing colour palettes.
Education and Artistic Development
Between 1993 and 1996, during her husband's assignment at the Regional Office of the World Health Organization, Samina lived in Alexandria, Egypt. There, she enrolled in the Institute Français d'Egypt à Alexandria, where she received formal training in various art genres. This period proved to be a turning point in her artistic development.
At the Institute, Samina refined her skills in both painting and ceramics and formed meaningful connections with artists from Egypt and other countries. These cross-cultural exchanges broadened her perspective and deepened her appreciation for artistic expression across mediums.
