Muhammad Zeeshan
Born in 1980 in Mirpurkhas, Pakistan, Muhammad Zeeshan is a critically acclaimed contemporary visual artist best known for his innovative reinterpretation of traditional miniature painting. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Miniature Painting from the National College of Arts (NCA), Lahore, in 2003.
Zeeshan currently lives in Lahore and also serves as an adjunct faculty member at the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture in Karachi.
Artistic Practice
Zeeshan began his artistic journey as a cinema billboard painter in his hometown, a formative experience that significantly shaped his visual language. His work blends classical miniature techniques with contemporary themes to challenge social norms and provoke reflection on cultural narratives and societal constructs.

He curated the second Karachi Biennale in 2019, focusing on themes that connect local perspectives to global discourses. His curatorial work is noted for its inclusive approach, highlighting underrepresented voices and encouraging dialogue between generations of artists.
Zeeshan has received numerous awards, including the 2021 Sadeqain: Price of Performance Award, the 2017 Nigaah Curatorial Award, the 2008 ACC Weimar Galerie Scholarship in Germany, and the 2007 Charles Wallace-Rangoonwala Trust Award. He has participated in artist residencies across the globe, including in the UAE, India, and Finland.
