Muhammad Hassan
Hassan Nasir (b. 2000) is a self-taught visual artist based in Multan, Pakistan. Though he always showed signs of creativity and productivity from an early age, he never formally engaged with art during his childhood. In 2016, a serious health crisis became a turning point in his life. Confronted with overwhelming thoughts about existence and legacy, he found solace and purpose in visual expression. Without prior training, he began to draw and paint almost instinctively as a way to express himself and create something that could outlive him.
As his passion for art deepened, Hassan immersed himself in learning. He independently studied the lives, styles, and techniques of contemporary artists and later received informal education in visual arts. His approach remains largely intuitive, guided by emotion and instinct rather than academic convention. For Hassan, art is a form of internal dialogue, an emotional language that connects hand, heart, and mind.
Artistic Style and Influences
Hassan's work is rooted in a personal interpretation of Cubism, marked by a distinct play of line, shape, colour, and perspective. His compositions reflect his emotional state and the world around him, often resembling visual puzzles. He deconstructs and reassembles single objects using a mix of perspectives and forms, giving each piece a unique identity.
His creative process is influenced by intuition, memory, and emotional resonance. He does not rely on external references; instead, his work is shaped by internal observations and feelings. Hassan trusts his instincts and lets his hand follow the guidance of his heart, creating deeply personal and expressive visual narratives.
Thought Process
I begin my compositions with intuitive feelings. Since my style draws from Cubism, I distort perspective and manipulate line, colour, and shape based on instinct. My artworks often emerge from a state of perplexity, in a space where I feel deeply connected to the process, as if the work itself is speaking to me. I don't use external references; memory, observation, and emotion guide me. Everything that surrounds me and everything I carry within, especially what's in my heart and mind plays a vital role in shaping my art.
