Muhammad Atif Khan

Muhammad Atif Khan graduated with Distinction in Fine Art from the National College of Arts (NCA), Lahore, Pakistan, in 1997. Since then, he has built a prolific career spanning over 27 years, earning acclaim both nationally and internationally for his unique artistic voice and commitment to contemporary art.

International Awards and Residencies
In 1998, Atif Khan received the UNESCO-Asch berg Bursary for Artists and served as Artist-in-Residence at Darat Al-Funun in Amman, Jordan. His residency experiences continued with a position at the Swansea Print Workshop in Wales during 2005–2006. He was honoured with the Commonwealth Arts & Crafts Award in 2007. In 2008, he held two prestigious residencies at the London Print Studio in England and the Glasgow Print Studio in Scotland. These experiences significantly enriched his artistic practice and expanded his international presence.

Exhibitions and Museum Showings
Atif Khan has exhibited his work in several leading museums around the world. His artwork has been showcased at the Bradford Museum in the United Kingdom, the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto, Canada, the Sharjah Art Museum in the United Arab Emirates, and the Islamic Museum of Australia in Melbourne. Over the course of his career, he has held 23 solo exhibitions in countries including Pakistan, the United Kingdom, Jordan, India, and Switzerland, reflecting his international appeal and consistent creative output.

Workshops and International Engagements
In addition to his exhibitions and residencies, Atif Khan has taken part in numerous international art workshops in Bangladesh, India, Jordan, and the United Kingdom. These engagements have allowed him to interact with diverse artistic communities and share his expertise globally.

Curatorial and Site-Specific Projects
In 2015, he won the Lahore Biennale Foundation’s Open Call competition titled “Intersections” and created a large-scale, site-specific installation titled City within a City at Chowk Istanbul on Mall Road in Lahore. In 2022, he was appointed as co-curator of the Asian Art Biennale in Bangladesh, the oldest and largest art biennale in Asia. His curatorial involvement demonstrates his broader commitment to shaping the contemporary art scene in South Asia.

Recent Awards
Atif Khan’s artistic excellence continues to be recognized through awards such as the ADA Award for 2020–21 in the category of Digital Arts, and the Nigaah Art Award in 2023 in the category of Printmaking. These honours affirm his versatility across different mediums and his continued relevance in the evolving art landscape.

Academic Role
Alongside his independent practice, Atif Khan serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Fine Art at the National College of Arts, Lahore. His role as an educator reflects his dedication to nurturing the next generation of artists while maintaining strong ties to his alma mater.
