Mirza Zeeshan

Mirza Zeeshan Hussain (b. 1993, Gilgit) is a Pakistani contemporary artist currently living and working in Lahore, where he also practices as an educator. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the National College of Arts, Lahore, where he was trained in the traditional discipline of Indo-Persian miniature painting. His practice spans multiple mediums, including painting, miniature painting, and sculpture.

Hussain’s work is deeply personal and rooted in an examination of the shared psychological realities of human existence. He reflects on trauma as a universal condition, suggesting that individuals, though distinct, are bound together by emotional experiences that cannot be suppressed or erased. These accumulated emotions form an invisible yet enduring baggage carried throughout life.

Recurring imagery of soft toys appears prominently in his work, symbolising human vulnerability, innocence, and emotional fragility. Set against textured, grungy backgrounds, these figures confront the complexities, anxieties, and dilemmas of contemporary life. Through this contrast, Hussain creates a poignant visual language that navigates tenderness and distress, revealing the quiet weight of lived experience.
