Jibran Shahid
Jibran Shahid is a multidisciplinary Pakistani visual artist known for his evocative explorations of the human form, classical aesthetics, and hybrid symbolism. Born in 1992 in Islamabad, he currently lives and works in Rawalpindi.
Education and Career
Shahid earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) with distinction from the National College of Arts (NCA), Rawalpindi, in 2016. He has since exhibited both locally and internationally, with his work featured in venues such as the Karachi Biennale, Koel Gallery (Karachi), Sanat Initiative (Karachi), and the Pakistan Embassy in Tokyo. In addition to his studio practice, he serves as a faculty member at The Millennium University Campus.
Artistic Practice
Shahid’s art spans drawing, painting, and sculpture, with a particular focus on ceramics and porcelain. His signature style involves merging human and equine forms to create hybrid figures that explore the relationship between man and horse—symbols of civilization, strength, and vulnerability. This theme is exemplified in his 2017 Karachi Biennale piece, Embrace of Death 2, a cold porcelain and resin sculpture that reflects on the intertwined histories of humans and horses.
His work often deconstructs and reassembles classical forms, drawing inspiration from Renaissance art to examine themes of power, beauty, and transformation. Over time, his practice has become increasingly narrative, with more thematic and story-driven compositions.
Recognition
Shahid’s early promise was recognized internationally when he received an honorable mention in the 2015 Florence Academy of Art summer scholarship contest.
