Hijab Rizwan

Hijab Rizwan (b. 2000)
Hijab Rizwan is a Pakistani visual artist currently based in Islamabad. She is a recent graduate of the National College of Arts (NCA), Lahore, where she honed a multidisciplinary approach to art, combining photography, drawing, and printmaking. During her undergraduate studies, she was selected for the prestigious UGRAD Exchange Program to the United States, where she deepened her engagement with charcoal and photography. This experience became a pivotal moment in shaping her artistic language, allowing her to explore new material and conceptual territories.

Hijab's practice centres on the intersection of memory, identity, and the transient nature of life. Her primary medium is charcoal, which she employs for its expressive depth and tactile quality. Drawing inspiration from personal family archives, her work reimagines these fragments of memory through textured surfaces and layered compositions. By blurring the boundaries between drawing and printmaking, she creates visually arresting pieces that reflect on the impermanence of time and the fluidity of recollection.

Her work has been exhibited in both academic and professional spaces, including the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) in Islamabad, the National College of Arts in Lahore, the Recent III Group Show at Tagheer Gallery. She also had a four-person show at That Studio Gallery.

Hijab continues to develop her practice through an ongoing exploration of material, memory, and meaning, pushing the limits of charcoal and photography to reflect on what it means to preserve and transform the past in visual form.
