Faizan Riedinger

Faizan Riedinger (b. 1988) is a German-Pakistani visual artist and musician based in Karachi, Pakistan. His work has been widely exhibited in solo and group exhibitions both locally and internationally, and in 2023 his work was acquired and published by the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia.

Riedinger’s practice is rooted in a deep engagement with the Arabic alphabet and script. Working meticulously with architect’s pens on canvas, he produces calligraphic-inspired marks that are minute, uniform, and repetitive in nature. These marks accumulate to form precise geometric compositions—circles, semi-circles, and linear patterns—that oscillate between abstraction, geometry, and script. Rendered in monochrome or carefully contrasted colour palettes, his works possess a calming, hypnotic quality that mirrors the discipline and focus of his process.

Resisting conventional categorisation, Riedinger describes his work as “hyper-minimalism”—art that appears minimal at first glance but reveals dense detail upon closer inspection. His practice embraces self-imposed constraints, where exactness and repetition are central. While the process is demanding and often laborious, it is precisely these limitations that define the rhythm and reward of his work, culminating in compositions that balance restraint, order, and meditative intensity.

Riedinger has presented solo exhibitions at Koel Gallery and Art Chowk Gallery in Karachi and has participated in major exhibitions in Pakistan, the UAE, the UK, Japan, and Malaysia. His work has been shown at venues including Alserkal Avenue, Asia House London, Satrang Gallery, Full Circle Gallery, Numaish Gah, and Art Chowk Gallery, among others. He lives and works in Karachi.
