Diploma in Fine Arts, 1996 Karachi School of Arts, Karachi
Abid Hasan was born in Rawalpindi, studied at Gordon College and got a diploma in Fine Arts from the Karachi School of Art. Now he is an established interior designer, painter and a visiting faculty member at KSA, where he teaches drawing.
Abid hasan has a very distinctive style when it comes to art. He experimented with the effects of chemicals on a silver leaf almost 15 years ago. He can be referred to as the master of oxidation. To get strategic compositions in this style is one of the hardest things to achieve, as the chemicals react on their own without any external control. He covers the canvas with a thick layer of silver leaf and blocks out certain areas by wax or paper, depending on the texture and imagery he wants to create. He then applies oxidizing chemicals which results in surfaces with interesting textures. Following this, paints are applied in a number of ways to finish the painting.
According to Abid Hasan, the world we live in is chaotic, where frustration, violence and agitation are rampant and people in authority go to extremes in order to hide the truth. The main source of inspiration for Abid is the present, what it looks like to him, how he interprets it, and the consequences of the respective actions. He believes in making paintings aesthetically attractive by giving finishing touches to compositions and adding a playful lustrous light so that there remains a positive aura wherever the painting is displayed.
Colours nourish the soul in a way that nothing else does, sometimes consciously and other times unconsciously. Abid paints with bright vibrant colours that feed the soul, knowing that we need these colours. This reflects his imaginative intelligence and skillful ability to execute even the most depressing situations with stimulating vibrancy and aesthetics.
The scale of his paintings differ from small frames to enormous ones. He can easily control all sizes with confidence and the passion he has for spreading positivity through his art to overcome the negativity that is present all around. His work lies in the category of abstract expressionism, in which the artist uses a ton of skill to produce something pleasing to the viewer’s eyes.
Abid Hasan's artworks have a certain quality associated with them that gently brings the viewers to a specific awareness. To create art that ‘touches’ the viewers’ souls is not an easy thing to do and Abid does that by creating paintings that draw the viewers in. A dialogue is thus created between the viewer and the piece of art being viewed, which is the highest praise that could be given to an artist.
